SOUTHFIELD, MI — Drug Lawsuit Source is pleased to announce Stephanie Mae Green, of Chicago, Illinois., has been named this year’s recipient of the 2019 Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship.
Established in 2015, the Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship was created to help take some of the financial burden off single-parent families who are in pursuit of higher education. Each year, Drug Lawsuit Source — an online resource for information about different diseases and medical conditions — awards $1,000 to a single parent who is helping raise at least one child.
Enrolled at National Louis University, Green was recently accepted into the Master’s in Health Services Administration (MHA) degree program and is tentatively scheduled to graduate the two-year program in 2020. Green said an MHA degree will allow her to continue to grow within her health care administrative career.
“This is a field that is very close to my heart, and this scholarship will help cover the costs of my education,” Green said. “I see too many times that our seniors are being mistreated in nursing homes. I want to help fix that problem.”
A two-time domestic violence survivor, Green has also faced financial hardships over the course of her life, such as lost jobs and failed investments, but is determined to overcome any obstacle thrown her way. She said she plans to start a business for battered and abused women and children in the near future, so that “my children and grandchildren will have something substantial.”
“It tears my heart apart when they ask me for something material that I cannot provide for them,” Green wrote in her essay. “Receiving this scholarship will put me in a better position to take care of bills, support my family and possibly a much-needed weekend getaway.”
Green recently earned a Bachelors of Science in Health Care Leadership at National Louis University, where she was inducted into the National Honors Society. She previously earned a Certificate in Health Care Aid Training and a Salutatorian Certificate, and was recognized as the first of her family to earn an Applied Associates of Science degree.
“Stephanie’s drive and motivation to overcome the many challenges thrown her way is both inspiring and motivating,” said Buckfire Law president Lawrence J. Buckfire. “It’s an honor and a privilege to name Stephanie this year’s scholarship recipient.”
Each year, the DLS Single Parent Scholarship is available to one student of any age who is a single parent helping to raise at least one child, currently enrolled in a high school, trade school, apprentice school, junior college, college, university, or graduate school in the United States with a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
The deadline to apply for the 2019 Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship was Nov. 1, 2019. Details for the 2020 scholarship will be posted in the near future on www.druglawsuitsource.com.
