Nicola Roath Named 2025 Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship Winner

Nicola Roath Single Parent Scholarship WinnerSOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Drug Lawsuit Source is pleased to announce Nicola Roath, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, has been named this year’s recipient of the 2025 Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship.

Established in 2015, the Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship was created to help take some of the financial burden off single-parent families who are in pursuit of higher education. Each year, Drug Lawsuit Source — an online resource for information about different diseases and medical conditions — awards $1,000 to a single parent who is helping raise at least one child.

Currently enrolled at New Mexico State University, Roath is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and plans to focus her future work on addiction-treatment research. She previously earned her Associate of Arts degree in psychology.

“Alongside my academic journey, I have raised four children- an experience that has taught me more about patience, perseverance, and unconditional support than any textbook ever could,” Roath said. “It has also sharpened my time management skills and reinforced my determination to build a future rooted in compassion and scientific inquiry.”

Roath is committed to helping others through science and aims to explore how biochemistry can be used to ease withdrawal symptoms, reduce dependency, and support long-term healing through the use of natural substances.

“My goal is to contribute to research that makes addiction treatment more effective, more humane, and more widely available,” Roath said. “I’m ready to turn my past into a platform for progress.”

“We’re proud to name Nicola as this year’s scholarship recipient,” Buckfire Law president Lawrence J. Buckfire said. “Her resilience, commitment to using her lived experiences to help others, and dedication to providing a better future for her children are truly inspiring.”

Each year, the DLS Single Parent Scholarship is available to one student of any age who is a single parent helping to raise at least one child, currently enrolled in a high school, trade school, apprentice school, junior college, college, university, or graduate school in the United States with a GPA of 2.7 or higher.

The deadline to apply for the 2026 Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship is Nov. 1, 2026. Details are posted on www.druglawsuitsource.com, and applications are currently being accepted.
